Six pathways. One PTE Core test.
IRCC accepts PTE Core for Express Entry, and many provincial streams accept it too. The practical question is which program your CRS profile and work history clears fastest.
Express Entry — FSWP / FSTP / CEC
The federal skilled-worker, skilled-trades and Canadian Experience Class streams. FSWP needs CLB 7 in all four skills; CEC needs CLB 7 for TEER 0/1 jobs and CLB 5 for TEER 2/3; FSTP needs CLB 5 in Speaking and Listening and CLB 4 in Reading and Writing. CLB 9 in all four skills is the practical target: it earns 31 CRS points per skill and most skill-transferability points.
Read full guideCEC — Canadian Experience Class
For Nepali international graduates with at least 12 months of Canadian skilled work experience (typically on a PGWP). The minimum is CLB 7 for TEER 0/1 jobs and CLB 5 for TEER 2/3. CLB 9 earns 31 CRS points per skill (29 with a spouse); CLB 10 earns the maximum 34 (32).
Read full guidePNP — Provincial Nominee Program
A nomination through an Express Entry-aligned PNP stream adds 600 CRS points; other PNP streams run a separate paper process. Each province (BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, NS, NB, PEI, NL) sets its own English minimum and occupation list. Ontario revoked all nine OINP streams on 30 May 2026 (Ontario Regulation 47/26), so check ontario.ca for its current streams before planning around Ontario.

Employer-driven program for the four Atlantic provinces (NS, NB, PEI, NL), tied to a job offer from a designated Atlantic employer. The English minimum depends on the job offer: check IRCC’s Atlantic Immigration Program language page for the level your offer needs.

Quebec runs its own selection and weights French heavily; English can add points but is not the main requirement. Check quebec.ca for which English tests Quebec accepts before booking PTE Core for a Quebec application.
Read full guidePGWP — Post-Graduation Work Permit
Since 1 November 2024, PGWP applicants must prove CLB 7 (university graduates) or CLB 5 (college graduates), and PTE Core is accepted. It matters again at the next step: converting PGWP work experience into CEC PR, where CLB 9 earns 31 CRS points per skill.

Nepali Students Targeting Canada Study + PR
BBS, BBA, BTech, BSc Nursing, BIT, BHM graduates planning a Canadian Master’s, post-graduate diploma or college program, then PGWP and CEC PR. Your college or university sets its own admission test (usually PTE Academic or IELTS Academic, not PTE Core). PTE Core matters at the PGWP stage (CLB 7 university / CLB 5 college) and again for PR, where CLB 9 earns most of the CRS language points.
Nepali International Graduates in Canada
Already on a PGWP, building Canadian work experience. CEC is the main route: 12+ months of skilled work plus PTE Core at CLB 7 for TEER 0/1 jobs or CLB 5 for TEER 2/3. CEC draw cut-offs change every round, so check IRCC’s rounds-of-invitations page for the latest; CLB 9 is what usually moves your CRS.
Nepali Diaspora in Toronto / Vancouver / Calgary
Already living in Canada and retaking PTE Core after a CRS cut-off rise. Many plateau at CLB 7–8 (Speaking 68–83) and need CLB 9 (Speaking 84+) for 31 CRS points per skill. The 1-on-1 plan diagnoses which enabling skill is dragging Speaking and runs sessions at your preferred time on your Toronto, Vancouver or Calgary clock.
PNP-Specific Candidates
Nepali workers whose skilled experience matches a province’s in-demand occupation list (for example BC tech, Saskatchewan trades). English thresholds vary by stream, so confirm the minimum on the province’s own stream page. A nomination through an Express Entry-aligned stream adds 600 CRS points.
CLB 9. CRS-ready. At your preferred time.
Your score report is diagnosed in the demo session. Then one live session a day for 7 days, 17 days or a month, on your local clock, with Coach-Until-Target on the longer plans.

PTE Core & Canada PR — Nepali FAQ
What PTE Core score do I need for Canada Express Entry?
IRCC accepts PTE Core for all federal Express Entry programs. FSWP and CEC (TEER 0/1 jobs) need CLB 7 in all four skills — on PTE Core that means Listening 60, Reading 60, Speaking 68 and Writing 69. CEC for TEER 2/3 jobs needs CLB 5; FSTP needs CLB 5 in Speaking and Listening and CLB 4 in Reading and Writing. The practical target is CLB 9 (L82 / R78 / S84 / W88), worth 31 CRS points per skill. CLB 10 (L89 / R88 / S89 / W90) adds 3 more points per skill (12 across all four) but is much harder to reach.
Should I take PTE Core, CELPIP, or IELTS General for Canada PR?
IRCC accepts all three (plus TEF/TCF for French). PTE Core is fully computer-based and AI-scored, with results typically within two business days (up to five). CELPIP-General is fully computer-delivered (one centre in Nepal at the time of writing). IELTS General Training is available on paper or on computer. PTE test centres operate in several Nepali cities; confirm PTE Core availability on the Pearson booking screen, and choose the test that fits your timeline and any existing PTE prep.
How does PTE Core differ from PTE Academic?
PTE Core (Canada) and PTE Academic (Australia / UK / NZ / academic admission) are different tests. PTE Core focuses on everyday English used in Canadian workplaces and communities — task types lean conversational and practical. PTE Academic is academic English with research-style item types. Same Pearson AI scoring engine; different content. Of the two PTE tests, AHPRA accepts only PTE Academic, and for Express Entry IRCC accepts PTE Core, not PTE Academic.
Can I use PTE Core for both BC PNP and Ontario OINP?
Most PNP streams measure English in CLB and many accept PTE Core, but each province publishes its own accepted tests and minimums — BC PNP and Alberta AAIP list theirs on welcomebc.ca and alberta.ca, and they change often. Ontario revoked all nine OINP streams on 30 May 2026 (Ontario Regulation 47/26), so check ontario.ca for its current streams rather than relying on the old OINP minimums. Always confirm the specific stream’s English requirement before booking.
What is the CLB 9 sweet spot, and why does it matter for CRS?
IRCC's Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) awards first-language English points by CLB band. CLB 9 (L82 / R78 / S84 / W88) is the highest band where most candidates can realistically score on PTE Core, and it gives 31 CRS points per skill for single applicants (no spouse) — or 29 per skill with a spouse/common-law partner. CLB 10 (L89 / R88 / S89 / W90) gives 34 per skill (single) / 32 per skill (with spouse) and is considerably harder to score. Most Nepali Canada-PR candidates target CLB 9, not CLB 10.
How long from PTE Core CLB 7 plateau to CLB 9 with 1-on-1 mentorship?
It depends on the size of the gap, and nobody can honestly promise a date. The blocking skill is usually Speaking: Pearson's AI scoring on Read Aloud and Repeat Sentence is hard on fluency and pronunciation patterns, more than on vocabulary. Your last score report is diagnosed in the demo session, and that decides whether the 17-day plan or the 1-month plan (with Coach-Until-Target) fits.
I work in Toronto / Vancouver / Calgary. Can the team of Smriti Simkhada coach in my time zone?
Yes. Sessions run at your preferred time on your local clock, whether you are in Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, Halifax, Calgary or Vancouver. Tell us the hours that fit your work or PGWP shift and the sessions are scheduled around them.
Is 1-on-1 mentorship the same product for Canada PTE Core as for Australia PTE Academic?
Yes, the same three plans (7 days, 17 days or 1 month), priced in Canadian dollars for Canada. The plan is calibrated to PTE Core item types and CLB 9 versus PTE Academic Superior English. Reading and Listening practice uses Canadian-English vocabulary instead of Australian; Speaking practice targets the PTE Core tasks (including Respond to a Situation) rather than Academic-only ones such as Re-tell Lecture.
