Universal Application Timeline

The 8-step study abroad process from Nepal

Works for any country. Start 12–18 months before your intake — the document gathering takes longer than students expect.

  1. 1

    Decide destination + course

Pick a country, course, and intake (February/July for Australia, September/January for UK, September/January/May for Canada). Match the course to long-term goals — university admission, PR, or skilled migration. Most Nepali students lock this in 12–18 months before the intake.

  2. 2

    Check entry requirements

Verify academic prerequisites (NEB +2, Bachelor's) and English language minimums for your specific university and visa stream. Each university publishes course-level entry requirements; immigration adds its own English floor at the visa stage.

  3. 3

Take PTE Academic (or PTE Core for Canada)

Typical target bands: PTE Academic 58–65 for foundation/diploma, 65–79 for Bachelor's/Master's, 79+ for migration bonus points. Canada PR via Express Entry accepts PTE Core (CLB 7–10). The UK requires PTE Academic UKVI (a SELT variant) for the visa.

  4. 4

    Gather your document set

Academic transcripts (NEB-attested for school certificates; Tribhuvan University CDC equivalency for foreign degrees), MOEST No-Objection Certificate (NOC), passport, character certificate, SOP, 2–3 recommendation letters, CV, financial proof (bank statements, sponsor affidavit), and source-of-funds documents. Allow 3–6 weeks for equivalency and translation.

  5. 5

    Apply to universities

Australia: direct to university or via registered education agent (CRICOS-listed institutions only). UK: most undergraduate applications go via UCAS by the equal-consideration deadline (18:00 UK on 14 January for 2026 entry — UCAS has moved the date earlier in recent cycles, so always verify on ucas.com); postgraduate is direct. Canada: direct to each DLI (Designated Learning Institution), plus your Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL) where required. Apply to 3–5 universities to hedge offers.

  6. 6

Accept offer → pay deposit → get visa document

Once you accept the offer and pay the first-semester deposit, the university issues your visa document: CoE (Confirmation of Enrolment) for Australia, CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies) for UK, LOA (Letter of Acceptance) for Canada. This document is mandatory for the visa application.

  7. 7

    Apply for the student visa

Australia subclass 500 (Student visa, online via ImmiAccount; AUD 2,000 fee; Genuine Student (GS) responses replaced the old GTE statement on 23 March 2024). UK Student Route (online with biometrics at VFS Kathmandu; GBP 558 fee + IHS GBP 776/yr; dependants banned for most courses since Jan 2024). Canada Study Permit (standard stream; SDS was discontinued by IRCC on 8 November 2024 and never applied to Nepal). Each requires health/medical checks, biometrics, English proof, and a financial proof package.

  8. 8

    Pre-departure

Health insurance (OSHC for AU, IHS for UK, provincial + private for CA), accommodation booking, forex/student bank account, flight tickets, pre-departure briefing, and copies of all key documents. Most students fly out 1–3 weeks before classes start.

1-on-1 Mentorship

Why work with a Nepali PTE coach for your study abroad application?

PTE is usually the rate-limiting step. Your university offer, your CoE/CAS/LOA, and your visa all gate on the same score report — and Nepali students hit the same recurring blockers (Pronunciation, Oral Fluency, Written Discourse, time pressure on Reorder Paragraphs). A coach who knows the Nepali accent profile and the country-specific score bands cuts weeks off your timeline.

Smriti Simkhada coaches Nepali students from Bharatpur, Chitwan, Nepal — 1-on-1 mentorship at Rs. 15,000 with a personalised roadmap, score-report diagnosis on session one, and time-zone flexibility for students preparing from Australia, UK, Canada, or the Gulf. PTE Academic 90/90 perfect scorer; over a decade of coaching experience focused on Pearson's scoring criteria.

Frequently Asked

Study abroad from Nepal — FAQs

Can I use PTE Academic instead of IELTS for all three countries?+
Yes for Australia and Canada — PTE Academic is fully accepted by Australian universities, DHA (immigration), AHPRA, and ACS, and by Canadian DLIs and IRCC. For the UK, you need PTE Academic UKVI (the SELT variant) for the visa, while PTE Academic (regular) is accepted by most UK universities for admission. The PTE UKVI test is identical in content but taken at an authorised SELT centre and tagged with extra ID verification.
Which country is cheapest for Nepali students in 2026?+
Canada is typically the most affordable for tuition (CAD 18,000–35,000/year, roughly NPR 17–34 lakh), followed by Australia and the UK. London adds a significant cost premium over outside-London UK universities. Total first-year outlay including tuition, living, visa, and English test usually runs NPR 45–80 lakh depending on city and course.
What is the minimum PTE score for a study visa to Australia, UK, or Canada?+
Australia subclass 500: DHA visa floor is Overall 42 with 36 per skill (higher-ed sector) — but your university requirement is almost always the binding constraint (typically Overall 58 for undergraduate, 65 for postgraduate). UK Student Route: CEFR B2 (PTE Academic UKVI Overall 59, with 59 in each skill) for degree-level; CEFR B1 (Overall 43, with 43 in each skill) for below-degree pre-sessional. Canada Study Permit: IRCC has no fixed English minimum (SDS was discontinued November 2024); your DLI sets the score it accepts — most universities ask PTE Academic Overall 58–70. Meet the higher of university minimum or visa floor.
How long does the full application process take from Nepal?+
Plan 12–18 months from "decide course" to "land in destination country". PTE preparation typically takes 6–12 weeks. University application processing runs 2–8 weeks. CoE/CAS/LOA issuance after acceptance and deposit is 1–4 weeks. Visa processing: Australia 6–12 weeks under Ministerial Direction 111 (varies by provider risk tier), UK ~3 weeks standard (5-day priority service available for an extra fee), Canada 8–16+ weeks (standard stream; SDS discontinued November 2024). Document gathering — especially NEB equivalency, MOEST NOC, and police clearance — is often the bottleneck.
Do I need an education agent or can I apply directly?+
You can absolutely apply directly to universities in all three countries — many Nepali students do, especially for postgraduate programs. Agents add value for course shortlisting, document review, and visa filing but charge fees (often paid by the university as commission). Direct application gives full control and zero hidden conflicts of interest. For PTE preparation, working with a dedicated coach (independent of agent) is recommended.
What financial proof do I need for the visa?+
Australia: 12 months of tuition + AUD 29,710 living costs (more if you bring a partner or child), plus travel costs — funds must be held for 3 months. UK: tuition + 9 months living (GBP 10,539 outside London or GBP 13,761 in London, current 2024 rates) held in your name for 28 consecutive days. Canada: CAD 22,895 cost-of-living proof (IRCC rate from 1 September 2025, updated annually) — most students buy a GIC for this amount as the cleanest single document, but bank statements + sponsor affidavits work too. Sponsor affidavit, bank statements, tax returns, and source-of-funds proof are needed in all three. Always verify current figures on the official immigration site before locking in your bank statements.
Can I work while studying in Australia, UK, or Canada?+
Australia: 48 hours per fortnight during semester (unlimited on breaks). UK: 20 hours per week during term (full-time on holidays). Canada: 24 hours per week off-campus during the academic session (full-time on scheduled breaks). All three count working illegally beyond limits as a serious visa breach.
What is the post-study work visa in each country?+
Australia: Subclass 485 Temporary Graduate visa — post the July 2024 reforms: Bachelor's 2 yrs, Master's coursework 2 yrs, Master's research 3 yrs, PhD 3 yrs (max age 35). UK: Graduate Route — 2 years (UG/PG) or 3 years (PhD); duration is reviewed periodically by the Home Office. Canada: PGWP (Post-Graduation Work Permit) — up to 3 years depending on program length, plus from 1 November 2024 a language test (PTE Core / IELTS) and (for non-university programs) a field-of-study eligibility check. Each remains the key bridge from study to skilled migration or PR.
Why work with a Nepali PTE coach for the application?+
PTE is usually the rate-limiting step for Nepali applicants — university and visa requirements both gate on the score. A Nepali coach diagnoses the exact band you need for your country/course, knows the accent-driven Speaking issues (Pronunciation, Oral Fluency), and can plan your retake calendar around offer deadlines. Smriti Simkhada (90/90 PTE scorer) runs 1-on-1 mentorship at Rs. 15,000 with time-zone flexibility for students preparing from Nepal, Australia, UK, Canada, or the Gulf.
