How to Pay the PTE Exam Fee in India

The fee is charged in rupees, which removes two costs an Indian test-taker would otherwise carry. Your bank adds no currency conversion markup, and because nothing leaves the country, there is no outward-remittance paperwork to deal with.

Two things go wrong at the payment step often enough to be worth naming:

• Pay from an account in your own name. The name on the booking has to match the identity document you carry to the test centre. A parent's card is a common shortcut and a common reason a booking has to be redone.
• Expect an OTP, and expect it to time out. Indian cards run additional-factor authentication, and a lapsed OTP is the most ordinary way a booking fails. If the money is debited but no confirmation email arrives, wait for the reversal before trying again. Booking twice is how people end up with two test dates and one usable score.

How the India Fee Compares With What Nepali Students Pay

INR 18,900 works out at about USD 200 at that same reference rate, or roughly AUD 277 at 68.18 to the Australian dollar. Hold on to that second figure if you are already planning your Australian move in dollars.

Across the border the gap is narrower than people assume. Pearson lists PTE Academic in Nepal at USD 220, which lands around NPR 32,000 to 33,000 depending on the day's rate and the payment channel's markup. Converted, that is close to INR 20,800.

So an Indian test-taker pays a little less, and pays it in a currency that does not move between deciding and booking. A Nepali student carries a dollar-denominated price, so their fee shifts with the exchange rate even in months when Pearson changes nothing. It is a modest edge, and it buys exactly one thing: a retake hurts slightly less. It does not make one free.

• Booking PTE Home to save INR 3,600. It answers UK family and settlement routes only. A university or a skilled visa will not take it, and the fee is gone.
• Booking PTE Core when the destination is Australia. Core is Canada's test. Australia runs on PTE Academic. Identical price, wrong exam, no refund for the confusion.
• Trusting a fee printed on a coaching centre's website. Prices moved on 16 March 2026 and plenty of pages did not follow. Check the figure at Pearson's own checkout before you build a budget on it.
