Introduction
Online PTE coaching for Indian students usually fails on the calendar before it fails on the English. A batch class at 7pm IST is fine for a student in Pune. It is useless for a nurse in Melbourne finishing a late shift, or an engineer in Bengaluru whose standup runs until 8pm.
We are the coaching team of Smriti Simkhada. We teach PTE Academic one-on-one, live and online, in English, from Nepal. That location turns out to be handy for Indian students. Nepal is only 15 minutes ahead of India, so our working day is your working day. And because every class is one-to-one, the slot is agreed with you, not fixed for a room of thirty.
Stuck below your target? The 79+ Sprint
Private 1-on-1 coaching, from US$99: pick 7 days, 17 days or 1 month, one live session a day on your time zone (Sydney · Melbourne · Toronto · London · Doha), a demo session included, and Coach-Until-Target on the longer plans.
This guide covers the real time gaps, which kinds of PTE practice suit which part of your day, and how to build a study week that survives a job or a university timetable.
The Time Gaps That Matter for Online PTE Coaching
India and Nepal: 15 minutes apart
India runs on UTC+5:30 and Nepal on UTC+5:45. When it is 7:00pm in Delhi it is 7:15pm in Kathmandu. For scheduling purposes that gap is nothing. You book a slot in your own hours, and your coach is awake and working at the same time you are.
Compare that with coaching run from Australia or Canada, where a convenient class for the coach can mean an early-morning or midnight class for you.
Indian students already in Australia
Many of the Indian students we coach are already in Australia, studying, working, or both. Australia has several time zones, and most of the south-east moves its clocks in October. Roughly:
- Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra and Hobart are 4.5 hours ahead of India in the Australian winter and 5.5 hours ahead once daylight saving starts on the first Sunday of October.
- Brisbane does not use daylight saving, so it stays 4.5 hours ahead all year.
- Adelaide is 4 hours ahead in winter and 5 hours ahead in summer.
- Perth stays 2.5 hours ahead all year.
So a 7:30pm class in Melbourne in November is 2:00pm in India and 2:15pm in Nepal. A coach in Nepal can take that class in the middle of the working day, without anyone losing sleep.
Indian students in the UK and Canada
The UK sits 4.5 hours behind India in British summer time and 5.5 hours behind in winter, so a 7pm class in London falls around midnight in Nepal. Toronto is further out still, 9.5 to 10.5 hours behind India. Those slots are harder, and we would rather tell you that than promise a time that doesn't work. Weekend mornings in the UK and weekday mornings in Toronto are usually where a workable overlap sits. One more check for Canada: permanent residence applications need PTE Core, a different test from PTE Academic, so confirm which one you are booking before you plan any coaching.
Why the October change catches people out
Every year some students miss a class in the first week of October because their calendar did the maths and they didn't, or the other way round. If you book recurring classes from Australia, confirm the new time with your coach the week the clocks change.
Matching PTE Practice to the Time of Day
Not every hour is equal for PTE. The test rewards a fresh voice and a sharp ear, and those fade at different rates through a day.
Speaking needs your best hour
Read Aloud, Repeat Sentence and Describe Image are scored on fluency and pronunciation from a recording. A tired voice sounds flat and hesitant, and the scoring hears it. If you can only give PTE one good hour a day, give it to speaking with your coach live, because that is where real-time correction does the most.
Writing and reading travel well
Essays, Summarize Written Text and the reading tasks can be done on your own in the gaps: on a lunch break, on the train, late in the evening. Send them to your coach and go through the feedback in your next live class.
Listening sits in between
Write from Dictation and Highlight Incorrect Words need concentration but not your voice. Short, frequent sets work better than one long block. Ten minutes before work beats an hour on Sunday.
Book your test slot to match
Whatever hour you practise speaking in, try to sit the real test at a similar time. A student who always practises at night and then books an 8am test slot is testing at their worst hour.
What Time-Zone Flexible 1-on-1 Coaching Actually Looks Like
Our coaching is one-on-one only. There is no batch to fit into. You pick one of three plan lengths, 7 days, 17 days or 1 month, and we agree class times with you before you start. For India, plans are priced in rupees; current prices are on the 1-on-1 coaching page.
In practice that means:
- You tell us your window. Before work, a lunch hour, after a shift, or weekends. We match it to a coach's calendar.
- The plan follows your gap. We start from where your score is, and spend the live time on the task types actually pulling it down.
- Shift workers can move classes. Nurses and hospitality workers in Australia rarely have the same roster two weeks running. Tell us the roster when it comes out.
- Everything is in English. Classes run in English, which is also the language of the test.
We are also building PTE Sprint, an Android app for our students. It is not on the Play Store yet, and you can follow it at ptesprint.com.
Building a Study Week Around a Job or a Degree
Here is a pattern that works for many working students. Adjust the hours; keep the shape.
- Two or three live speaking-focused classes a week, in your freshest hour.
- One writing piece every other day, done in a gap and sent for feedback.
- Ten to fifteen minutes of listening daily, split into short sets.
- One timed mock near the end of each fortnight, at the same time of day as your booked test.
- One day off. Students who never stop plateau sooner, not later.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Choosing a batch course for the price, then missing half the classes. A class you can't attend costs more than a slightly dearer one you can.
- Practising speaking only at midnight. Your recorded voice at that hour is not the one you want scored.
- Forgetting the October clock change when you book from Sydney, Melbourne or Adelaide.
- Booking the test before measuring the gap. Start with a free assessment instead.
- Treating every task equally. Two or three task types usually hold a score down. Spend live time there.
Step-by-Step: Getting Started From India or Australia
- Write down your real free hours for a normal week, including shifts or lectures.
- Mark your best hour, the one where your voice and focus are strongest.
- Take a free assessment so the plan starts from your actual score.
- Pick a plan length that matches the time until your deadline.
- Agree the class times with your coach, and note any clock changes ahead.
What Our Nepali Students Taught Us About Scheduling
We started with Nepali students spread across Sydney, Melbourne, Doha and Kathmandu, and learned the scheduling lessons with them first. The biggest was simple: students who kept one fixed weekly slot improved more steadily than students who booked whenever they could. That holds for our Indian students too. Flexibility is for choosing the slot. Consistency is for keeping it.
Frequently Asked Questions
What time are the online PTE classes in India?
There is no fixed timetable, because every class is one-to-one. You tell us the hours that work for you and we match them to a coach. Nepal is only 15 minutes ahead of India, so your normal daytime and evening hours are our working hours too.
Can I take classes from Australia after work?
Yes. Eastern Australia is 4.5 to 5.5 hours ahead of India depending on the season, so an evening class in Sydney or Melbourne falls in the Nepal afternoon. Tell us your roster and we plan around it.
Are the classes in Hindi?
No. Classes are taught in English, which is the language you are tested in. Our coaches are used to working with students from India, Nepal and Bangladesh.
How long should I coach before the PTE test?
It depends on your gap. A few points can close in a week of focused work. A large gap needs longer. We offer 7-day, 17-day and 1-month plans, and a free assessment tells you which fits.
Is there a PTE Sprint app I can download now?
Not yet. PTE Sprint is an Android app we are building for our students, and it is not on the Play Store yet. You can follow progress at ptesprint.com.
Conclusion
Online PTE coaching for Indian students works when the class fits your day instead of the other way round. The 15-minute gap between India and Nepal makes that easy at home. For Indian students in Australia, a coach in Nepal can take your evening class in their afternoon. Put speaking in your best hour, fit writing and listening into the gaps, and keep one steady weekly slot.
