From the Himalayas to the World: Who We Coach and How PTE Onboarding Works

Introduction: PTE Coaching That Starts in Bharatpur and Reaches Everywhere

Many people first reach us on WhatsApp, often with a message that starts "I am not sure this is for me." It could come from a nurse in Sydney, a doctor in Manchester, a teacher in Texas, or an older sister in Melbourne who wants classes for her younger sister back in Chitwan. Each of them would get the same answer: tell us where you are going, and we will show you what the PTE part of that road looks like.

This article is about how PTE coaching onboarding works at PTE Nepal, and who it is for. PTE Nepal is a female-led team. Coaching is delivered by the team of Smriti Simkhada, who scored PTE Academic 90/90, holds Pearson's PTE Trainer: Foundation (Level 1) certificate of completion, and has taught PTE and IELTS since January 2024. We teach from Nepal, online, for students in whatever time zone they live in.

Below you will find the people we coach most often, the exact steps from first message to first class, the English rules each pathway really runs on, and the mistakes we see people make before they reach us.

1-on-1 Mentorship

Stuck below your target? The 79+ Sprint

Private 1-on-1 coaching, from US$99: pick 7 days, 17 days or 1 month, one live session a day at a time that suits you, a demo session included, and Coach-Until-Target on the longer plans.

Who We Coach: Six People, Six Different PTE Targets

The examples below are illustrations of the kinds of students we work with. They are not named testimonials and they are not real individuals. They show why one score target never fits everyone. We start with healthcare, because Ahpra registration has its own rules that catch people out.

PTE for Nurses and Doctors: Meeting the Ahpra English Standard

Nurses and doctors registering in Australia meet the same Ahpra English language skills standard. For PTE Academic tests taken on or after 23 April 2026, Ahpra's minimums are Overall 63, Listening 58, Reading 59, Writing 60 and Speaking 76. At-home versions of the test are not accepted.

The Nepali nurse moving to Australia

Speaking 76 and Writing 60 are the two scores we see stall most often. Ahpra also accepts results from a maximum of two PTE Academic sittings no more than 12 months apart. You still need Listening 58, Reading 59, Writing 60 and Speaking 76 across the two sittings, an overall 63 in each sitting, and no skill below Listening 53, Reading 54, Writing 60 or Speaking 66 in either sitting. We treat that as insurance, not Plan A.

Our PTE for nurses page covers the full nursing pathway, and the Speaking 76 plan for nurses breaks the Speaking tasks down week by week.

The UK-based doctor heading to Australia

A doctor working through the AMC pathway to Australia also has to meet the English standard for registration with the Medical Board of Australia. That Board uses Ahpra's English language skills registration standard. A test is only one route. Depending on where you studied and qualified, you may meet the standard without sitting one, and the Medical Board also accepts successful completion of the PLAB test or NZREX. Check your own pathway on the Medical Board and Ahpra sites before you book anything.

If a test is the right route for you, PTE Academic is on Ahpra's accepted-tests list, taken on a computer at a test centre, with the same minimums as above. Doctors are usually strong readers. Speaking 76 is where they lose time, because clinical English and PTE fluency scoring are not the same skill.

Students, Teachers, PR Couples and Families

Outside healthcare, the score that matters depends on who is asking for it: a university, a credentialing body, or the Australian points test.

The student applying abroad

A student choosing a university needs a score that clears the course offer, and sometimes a higher one for the visa or scholarship. Our job is to find the highest number that actually applies and coach toward that, not toward a figure someone heard from a friend. If you are still choosing a destination, the Australian university PTE guide is a good place to start.

The teacher in the US

Some US teaching credentials and visa routes ask overseas-educated teachers for an English test. Rules differ by state, by school district and by visa, so the first thing we do is ask which tests your authority lists. When PTE Academic is on that list, we prepare you for it. When it is not, we tell you so before you spend a test fee.

The couple planning PR

This case is becoming more common. One partner is the main applicant and chases the most English points. The other partner's English can add points too. Here is how the Australian points test treats each of them:

  • Main applicant, Proficient English (+10 points): Listening 58, Reading 59, Writing 69, Speaking 76.
  • Main applicant, Superior English (+20 points): Listening 69, Reading 70, Writing 85, Speaking 88.
  • Partner with Competent English (+5 points): Listening 47, Reading 48, Writing 51, Speaking 54. The partner must be an applicant for the same visa and must not be an Australian citizen or permanent resident.

If you have heard that Superior English means "IELTS 8 each", note that the PTE version is not a flat number per skill. For PTE tests taken on or after 7 August 2025 it is the uneven set above, and Writing 85 and Speaking 88 are the hard ones.

Many couples still say "the partner only needs 50." That is the rule for the old test: 50 in each skill, for PTE tests taken on or before 6 August 2025. An old report like that still counts while it is inside the Home Affairs 3-year window for your visa, so do not rebook just because the rule changed. For tests taken on or after 7 August 2025, Competent English is the four component scores above, not a flat 50. All four must come from one PTE score report.

Partner points are also one option among several in the points test, so confirm which option suits your case. The partner English guide explains the difference between Functional and Competent English, and the PR points calculator shows what the extra points do to your total.

The sister enrolling her younger sister

Some of our students never fill in the first form themselves. An older sister in Australia messages us, asks the questions, and enrols her younger sister in Nepal. We then work directly with the younger sister. She fills in her own details on the dashboard, her classes are set in Nepal time, and she can ask questions in Nepali when an English explanation is not landing.

How PTE Coaching Onboarding Works, Step by Step

Onboarding is short. We would rather you spend your energy on Speaking than on paperwork. These are the steps every student goes through.

1. A free assessment or a WhatsApp chat

You can take the free score assessment or message us on WhatsApp. Either way we ask three things: your target score, your deadline, and where you are now. If you have a past PTE score report, send it. It tells us more than any questionnaire.

2. Choosing a plan

There are three 1-on-1 plans: 7 days, 17 days and 1 month. The 7-day plan suits someone close to their target with a test date already booked. The 1-month plan suits a bigger gap, such as a nurse moving from Speaking 65 toward 76. Prices are set per region and shown on the 1-on-1 PTE coaching page.

3. The onboarding form on your dashboard

After you enrol, you sign in and fill in your own onboarding form on the student dashboard: your goal, your test history, and how you rate your own four skills. You write it once. Your coach reads it before the first class, so the first session is spent on your weak skill, not on introductions.

4. Coach assigned, classes scheduled in your time zone

A teacher from the team is assigned to you and your classes are scheduled. Every class shows in your own time zone, whether that is Sydney, London, Toronto, Doha or Kathmandu. Each class comes with a Google Meet invite that lets you join straight in, without waiting to be admitted. If your shifts make evenings the only option, read our note on evening PTE coaching across time zones.

5. Classes, chat and daily drills

On the website dashboard and in the PTE Sprint app you will find:

  • My classes, with a Join button on each upcoming session.
  • Chat with your coach between classes, for the question that cannot wait until Thursday.
  • Daily drills, short practice sets you can do on the bus or between hospital shifts.

6. Re-test

When your practice is consistently where it needs to be, you book your PTE Academic test. If the result falls short, we look at the score report together, find the skill that slipped, and plan the next attempt around it.

Why a Female-Led PTE Coaching Team Matters to Our Students

Think about who sits behind those six examples. Nurses, mothers fitting study around children, partners preparing for a visa, younger sisters sitting their first international exam. Practising Speaking out loud, making mistakes and asking the "silly" question all come easier with a coach you feel comfortable with.

That is part of why the team is built the way it is. Women run it, and the work is opening the door for the next person, whatever their background. A new teacher is joining the team. The 1-on-1 format stays the same: one coach, one student, one plan.

We also welcome everyone. Our main focus is people already in Australia, of any nationality, including students from Nepal, India, Bangladesh and Bhutan. Classes run in English. Nepali explanations are there when they help.

Common Mistakes to Avoid Before You Start

  • Using the wrong partner score. "50 for the partner" is the old-test rule. A report from before 7 August 2025 with 50 in each skill still works while it is in date. A test taken on or after 7 August 2025 needs Listening 47, Reading 48, Writing 51 and Speaking 54.
  • Booking the wrong product. Canada PR uses PTE Core, not PTE Academic. If Canada is your goal, start with the PTE Core for Canada guide.
  • Assuming every authority accepts PTE. AITSL, which assesses school teachers for Australian migration, accepts Academic IELTS as its English test and does not accept PTE. Check the assessing body's own list first.
  • Sitting an at-home test for registration or a visa. Ahpra and the Department of Home Affairs do not accept at-home or remote-proctored versions.
  • Mixing two score reports for PR. Home Affairs wants all four component scores on one PTE score report. Ahpra's two-sitting rule is a registration rule only.

Step-by-Step Practice Method for Your First Two Weeks

  1. Day 1: share your score report or take the free assessment. Write down the one skill furthest from your target.
  2. Days 2 to 4: first classes go to that skill only. For most of our students it is Speaking, so we start with Read Aloud and Repeat Sentence fluency.
  3. Days 5 to 7: add one daily drill set and record yourself once a day. Send your coach the recording that felt worst, not the best one.
  4. Days 8 to 10: work on the second-weakest skill while keeping the daily Speaking drill.
  5. Days 11 to 14: sit one full timed practice test. Your coach compares it with day 1 and decides whether you book now or keep training.

Tips for Nepali Students and Families Abroad

  • Fluency matters more than accent. Pearson's scoring accepts regional accents as long as they are understandable. What lowers the fluency score is hesitating, repeating yourself and false starts. Natural pauses in Read Aloud are fine; long stalls are not.
  • Plan around your shifts. If you work nights in aged care, ask for morning classes in your time zone. Tired practice teaches tired habits.
  • Enrolling a family member is fine. You can make the first contact for a sister, brother or partner. We just need the student to fill in their own form and attend their own classes.
  • Test centres in Nepal. If you are in Nepal, you can sit at a Pearson test centre in Kathmandu, Pokhara and other cities. Centres change, so check the live list when you choose a date. Our PTE test booking help covers the steps.

FAQ

Do you coach nurses for the Ahpra Speaking 76?

Yes. Speaking 76 is the most common stuck point for nurses, so most class time goes there, with Writing 60 next. Ahpra's minimums for tests taken on or after 23 April 2026 are Overall 63, Listening 58, Reading 59, Writing 60 and Speaking 76, and the test must be taken at a test centre.

Can I enrol my sister or partner in PTE classes from Australia?

Yes. A family member can make the first contact and choose the plan. After that, the student signs in, fills in their own onboarding form, and attends classes in their own time zone.

What PTE score does my partner need for the 5 partner points?

For PTE Academic tests taken on or after 7 August 2025, Competent English is Listening 47, Reading 48, Writing 51 and Speaking 54, all on one score report. The old "50 in each skill" applies to tests taken on or before 6 August 2025, and those results stay usable while they are within the 3-year window for your visa.

Do you coach doctors preparing to register in Australia?

Yes. The Medical Board of Australia uses Ahpra's English language skills standard, which accepts PTE Academic taken at a test centre. Some doctors meet the standard another way, such as through the PLAB test or NZREX. If you need a test, we coach toward the Ahpra minimums, with most of the time going to Speaking.

Are classes in English or Nepali?

Classes run in English, and they are open to students of any nationality. Nepali explanations are available whenever they help a student understand faster.

Conclusion: From the Himalayas to Your Next Score

PTE coaching onboarding at PTE Nepal is built to get you into a real class fast: an assessment or a chat, a plan, one form, a coach, and classes in your own time zone. Whether you are a nurse, a doctor, a teacher, a student, a couple chasing PR points, or a sister enrolling a sister, the first step is the same.
