PTE Core vs PTE Academic — Why the Centres Matter
Both tests use the same Pearson VUE delivery infrastructure, but PTE Core requires a centre that has been specifically activated for Core administration. - Kathmandu centres deliver PTE Core with relatively frequent slots. Booking 1–2 weeks ahead is generally sufficient outside peak periods.
- Pokhara centre may offer PTE Core, but slot frequency is lower. Book 3–4 weeks ahead to be safe and confirm Core availability in the booking portal before travelling.
- Chitwan, Biratnagar, and other regions — confirm availability via the Pearson booking portal. If Core is not offered, students typically travel to Kathmandu.
Always confirm Core availability at your preferred centre by searching for "PTE Core" (not "PTE Academic") in the Pearson VUE booking portal — the calendar shows only Core slots when you select PTE Core as the product. Fees and seat availability can change; confirm in your Pearson account before payment.
How to Book PTE Core in Nepal — Step by Step
- Create a Pearson VUE account at pearsonvue.com/pte. Use your full legal name exactly as on your passport — name mismatches cause IRCC rejection.
- Select "PTE Core" — not "PTE Academic", "PTE Academic UKVI", or "PTE Home". These are separate products with different IRCC acceptance status.
- Choose "Nepal" as your location, then filter by city.
- Pick a slot that allows enough time for score delivery before your Express Entry profile deadline. PTE Core results typically arrive within 2 business days, and up to 5 in some cases.
- Pay via your preferred payment method. Nepal-specific payment options may be available through Pearson's local partner — check the booking portal for current accepted methods. Fees vary; confirm the current NPR equivalent in your booking before paying.
- Verify your booking confirmation — download the PDF voucher and confirm the test type explicitly reads "PTE Core".
PTE Core Score Delivery Timeline
Score reports typically arrive within 2 business days via your Pearson account, and up to 5 business days in some cases. This is materially faster than IELTS General Training (up to 13 days for paper) and CELPIP (typically 8 days) — a significant advantage when IRCC Express Entry draw timing matters.
Once your score report is available, you can submit it to IRCC using the official IRCC portal. Your score is valid for 2 years from the test date for Express Entry purposes. Always confirm current validity and submission requirements at canada.ca/ircc.
Which Cities Work Best for Nepali Students
Kathmandu — Recommended Default
Highest slot frequency, easiest rebooking if you need to retake. Most Nepali students and consultancies are based here. Pearson-approved centres including Alfa Beta and ULCI operate in Kathmandu. Use the official test centre finder to see current options and availability.
Pokhara — Potential Secondary Option
May have lower slot frequency but less booking competition. If considering Pokhara, confirm PTE Core is available there via the booking portal before making travel arrangements, and book well in advance.
Chitwan, Biratnagar, and Other Regions
Check the Pearson VUE booking portal for PTE Core availability in your region. If no Core sessions are listed, students from these regions typically book Kathmandu and plan a 1–2 day trip. The test itself takes under 2 hours.
How Much Does PTE Core Cost in Nepal in 2026?

What to Bring on Test Day
- Valid passport — the same passport you used at booking. Citizenship card or driving licence is not accepted for PTE Core.
- Booking confirmation (printed or on phone).
- Nothing else. No phones, watches, bags, water bottles allowed in the testing room. Lockers are provided outside.
- Arrive 30 minutes early. Check-in, biometrics, and signature capture take 15–20 minutes.
After the Test — Sending Scores to IRCC
- Log into your Pearson account after your results are ready (typically within 2 business days).
- Download your score report PDF.
- In your IRCC Express Entry profile, enter the scores under the language test section. IRCC accepts the PDF directly — no need to physically mail.
- Scores are machine-verifiable by IRCC against Pearson's system, so there is no approval delay.
